The Board of Trustees is responsible for the strategic direction of the school.
Mr. Stefan Urner is responsible for the operational management, serving both as Managing Director of the Lakeside School Foundation and also as Head of School for both Lakeside School Küsnacht (since 2001) and Lakeside School Horgen (since 2012).
It is the Head of School's responisbility to create optimal conditions to ensure that Lakeside School develops continuously according to its central ideas. In addition the Head of School is responsible for the personnel and financial managmeent at both Lakeside School Küsnacht and Horgen.
The link between the school administration and the teachers are the "Division Heads". Taking responsibility for the pedagogical and organizational aspects as well as the human resources needs of their respective levels, the Division Heads at Lakeside School Küsnacht are Ms. Melanie Thomson for Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten and Ms. Christine Mailänder for 1st. - 6th. Grades.
Stefan Urner acquired his primary teaching diploma in Canton Zürich. After three years of teaching he dedicated himself professionally to movement theatre. Three years later he returned to classroom teaching in Uetikon, where, in a managment position, he co-developed the ’Teilautonome’ School Uetikon which includes kindergarten to Grade 9. At the same time, he completed the Canton Zürich training course for school heads as well as a course becoming a specialist for quality development both at Kindergarten and Primary levels. He became head of Lakeside School Küsnacht at the beginning of the school year 2001/02 and since 2012 has also been Head of Lakeside School Horgen, as well as Executive Director of the Lakeside School Foundation.
Melanie Thomson has been involved in the education sector in Spain, the UK and Switzerland since 1991. After receiving her TESOL certificate to teach English as a second language, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Primary Education at Sheffield Hallam University, UK. She grew up in a bilingual home in Switzerland and the UK, and has taught from pre-nursery to adults, gaining valuable experience in bilingual teaching environments. She spent five years as the director of a British summer school in Madrid, and has written and taught professional development courses for teachers in Spain. She taught musical initiation to Kindergarten children, set-up and ran a music playgroup in 2001 and an international playgroup in 2003. After moving to Switzerland, she joined the team at Lakeside School Küsnacht in August 2006. Since 2008 she has been the Division Head of the Kindergarten, as well as the Pre-Kindergarten from 2017. In August 2018 she took on the role of the Deputy Head of School.
Christine Mailänder ist im Zürcher Unterland aufgewachsen und hat dort das Langzeitgymnasium besucht. Anschliessend hat sie die Ausbildung zur Primarlehrerin in Zürich abgeschlossen und mehrere Jahre auf verschiedenen Stufen unterrichtet. Während ihrer frühen Familienzeit hat sie Stellvertretungen übernommen, sich regelmässig weitergebildet sowie Nachhilfe- und Musikstunden erteilt. Als ihre zwei Kinder selbstständiger wurden, hat sie in ihrer Wohngemeinde wieder unterrichtet und an der Entwicklung der Schule aktiv mitgearbeitet. Als Mitarbeiterin der Pädagogischen Hochschule Zürich bildet sie auch StudentInnen aus und betreut BerufseinsteigerInnen. Nachdem sie von 2009 bis 2014 in der Lakeside School Küsnacht unterrichtet hatte, kehrt sie ab August 2017 nach dreijährigem Engagement in der öffentlichen Schule wieder an unsere Schule zurück. In ihrer Freizeit liest und reist Christine Mailänder sehr gerne, spielt Violine oder unternimmt Bergtouren.
