Subject Teacher French
Nicole Albani was born in the south of France. In 1994 she married and moved to Zurich. To transmit her passion and love for the French language, culture and literature, she studied for three years to get the State Diploma of Teaching French as a Foreign Language (DAEFLE). In 2006 she began her teaching career in Zürich focusing on language and culture of origin (Cours FLAM). In parallel, she taught French as part of the “Mother Tongue Maintenance Program” for non-French speaking children at Le Lycée Français de Zurich and also English and German speaking children at the Inter-Community School in Zumikon. Madame Albani has been teaching at Lakeisde School Horgen and Küsnacht since 2012.
Subject Teacher DaZ (German as a Second Language DAZ)
Tana Brunner grew up bilingually in Zurich and completed her primary teacher training in 2004. Thereafter she worked for a number of years as a German and English teacher at the Japanese School in Zurich before going to Osaka to teach in a public school. After returning to Switzerland, she took her passion for travel and cultures and applied it to a new career completing a tourism education and working in a travel agency. While her enthusiasm for languages remained, she worked at the same time in a language school teaching German as a foreign language. In 2010, Ms. Brunner moved to Santiago, Chile where she taught German as a Second Language as well as gave lessons for native German speakers at the Swiss school. She joined Lakeside School Horgen and Küsnacht as of summer 2017.
Subject Teacher Swimming
Ms. Claudia Büttner grew up and went to school in Horgen. While she was home caring for her young children, she trained as a swimming instructor. For the past 20 years, Ms. Büttner has run her own swimming school in Langnau am Albis (www.erlebnisweltwasser.ch). In addition, she been a swim instructor for kindergarten children at the Hausen am Albis school for the past six years.
Ms. Büttner is very happy to teach our kindergarten children in the Oberrieden teaching pool as of February 2019.
Subject Teacher Sports, Music and ESL (English as a Second Language)
Division Head Primary
Peter Gilbert grew up in the heart of England and studied drama and education at the University of Warwick, gaining a BA Honours with Qualified Teaching Status. Since graduating in 2004, Peter Gilbert has taught in small village and large city schools as well as a variety of private international schools. Since arriving in Switzerland in 2007, Mr Gilbert has gained valuable teaching experience in bilingual and ESL education across the kindergarten and primary age range.
During his teaching career Mr Gilbert trained as a Physical Education Link Teacher, teaching curriculum sport, organising and coaching teams, as well as coordinating with school sport leaders from other local schools.
Mr Gilbert joined Lakeside School Horgen in 2014.
Technical and pedagogical ICT support ("TICTS" & "PICTS")
Jürgen Franck has his professional roots in the graphic arts industry. For ten years he has been working as a certified vocational school teacher in basic and advanced training. Computer science has always been important in both areas. Since 2018 he has been working as PICTS (Pedagogical ICT Support) at a primary school. From the 2019 school year, he will be providing technical and pedagogical support at both Lakeside School locations in Küsnacht and Horgen. As part of his 40% workload, he will advise teachers on IT issues and media pedagogy and support them in integrating exciting IT projects into their lessons. With regard to the computer science concept of the Lakeside School, he also advises the school management and will help with implementation. The German-Swiss dual citizen has been living with his family in the Zurich Unterland for almost 20 years. Gardening and swimming are among his hobbies.
Subject Teacher DaZ (German as a Second Language) KG2 & Learning Support
Erika Jäger was born in Ambler, Pennsylvania to a Swiss father and a Canadian mother.
Frau Jäger moved back to Switzerland for primary and secondary school. She then completed a commercial apprenticeship at the KV Zürich Business School and worked in business administration at the University Hospital of Zürich. After receiving her degree, Frau Jäger moved back to the United States to earn a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood on an athletic scholarship.
Frau Jäger, who is perfectly bilingual, taught mainly Grade 1 and 2 as well as Kindergarten at Lakeside School Horgen since 2008. In addition, in 2012 she became Divison Head Primary. After an extended maternity leave, Ms. Jäger returned to Lakeside School in January 2017. Over the past years she has completed professional training in special needs, AD(H)D/ASD coaching and gifted support and now works part-time as DaZ (in Kindergarten 2) and learning support teacher.
Subject Teacher Drama (German)
Katrin Sauter grew up in Basadingen TG and has lived in the city of Zurich since 2001.
She began her professional career with the acquisition of a teaching diploma at the teachers' seminar Kreuzlingen TG and from 1995 taught for six years at the lower school in Hüttwilen TG. From 1996 to 2000 she graduated as an art and design therapist at Eva Brenner's seminar in Frauenfeld. From 2001 to 2005 she studied theatre pedagogy at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater HMT (now ZHdK).
Since then she has been working as a freelance theatre designer and has more than 20 years of experience in teaching and diverse theatre productions. She has realised various theatre projects with people of all ages - in schools and in private, among others for the Verein Kultur im Eisenwerk Frauenfeld, the Jugendclub Momoll Theater Schaffhausen, the Musikkollegium Winterthur and the Junge Schauspielhaus Zürich. She is also a passionate teacher and singer of vocal improvisation and circle singing. Frau Sauter joined Lakeside School Horgen in August 2019. www.katrinsauter.ch
Subject Teacher Handicrafts (German)
Yvonne Scarabello was raised in Frauenfeld TG. After a four year apprenticeship as a skinner and an additional year at the School of Applied Arts (now the ZHdK), in 2003 she graduated from the F&F School for Art and Media Design with a Fine Arts diploma. Since then she has been working as a freelance artist. Ms Scarabello is committed to sharing her fascination for textile design and general handicrafts with children and teenagers. Since 2008 she has been working as a handicrafts teacher and substituting at various levels in different schools. She covered maternity leave several times at both Lakeside School Horgen and Küsnacht. Since 2015 she teaches at Lakeside School Horgen.
Subject Teacher Sports
Francesca Sganzerla (Ms. S) was born in Italy and grew up living and studying in different countries since her childhood - Nigeria, Norway, Vietnam, Egypt, USA, Mexico whereby, she developed a cosmopolitan attitude that makes her at ease in multicultural environments. Ms. S completed her undergraduate degree in Physical Education at ISEF (Higher Institute of Physical Education) in Italy and earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. She further obtained her K-12 Physical Education teaching license from Texas.
In Mexico, she taught Sports to grades K-12 at a local school affiliated with UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico). Since 2013 she teaches sports and swimming in another international bilingual school in Zurich. She joined Lakeside School Horgen in 2016.
