Subject Teacher French
Nicole Albani was born in the south of France. In 1994 she married and moved to Zurich. To transmit her passion and love for the French language, culture and literature, she studied for three years to get the State Diploma of Teaching French as a Foreign Language (DAEFLE). In 2006 she began her teaching career in Zürich focusing on language and culture of origin (Cours FLAM). In parallel, she taught French as part of the “Mother Tongue Maintenance Program” for non-French speaking children at Le Lycée Français de Zurich and also English and German speaking children at the Inter-Community School in Zumikon. Madame Albani has been teaching at Lakeisde School Horgen and Küsnacht since 2012.
Subject Teacher Sports, Music and ESL (English as a Second Language)
Division Head Primary
Peter Gilbert grew up in the heart of England and studied drama and education at the University of Warwick, gaining a BA Honours with Qualified Teaching Status. Since graduating in 2004, Peter Gilbert has taught in small village and large city schools as well as a variety of private international schools. Since arriving in Switzerland in 2007, Mr Gilbert has gained valuable teaching experience in bilingual and ESL education across the kindergarten and primary age range.
During his teaching career Mr Gilbert trained as a Physical Education Link Teacher, teaching curriculum sport, organising and coaching teams, as well as coordinating with school sport leaders from other local schools.
Mr Gilbert joined Lakeside School Horgen in 2014.
Technical and pedagogical ICT support ("TICTS" & "PICTS")
Jürgen Franck has his professional roots in the graphic arts industry. For ten years he has been working as a certified vocational school teacher in basic and advanced training. Computer science has always been important in both areas. Since 2018 he has been working as PICTS (Pedagogical ICT Support) at a primary school. From the 2019 school year, he will be providing technical and pedagogical support at both Lakeside School locations in Küsnacht and Horgen. As part of his 40% workload, he will advise teachers on IT issues and media pedagogy and support them in integrating exciting IT projects into their lessons. With regard to the computer science concept of the Lakeside School, he also advises the school management and will help with implementation. The German-Swiss dual citizen has been living with his family in the Zurich Unterland for almost 20 years. Gardening and swimming are among his hobbies.
Subject Teacher DaZ (German as a Second Language) KG2 & Learning Support
Erika Jäger was born in Ambler, Pennsylvania to a Swiss father and a Canadian mother.
Frau Jäger moved back to Switzerland for primary and secondary school. She then completed a commercial apprenticeship at the KV Zürich Business School and worked in business administration at the University Hospital of Zürich. After receiving her degree, Frau Jäger moved back to the United States to earn a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood on an athletic scholarship.
Frau Jäger, who is perfectly bilingual, taught mainly Grade 1 and 2 as well as Kindergarten at Lakeside School Horgen since 2008. In addition, in 2012 she became Divison Head Primary. After an extended maternity leave, Ms. Jäger returned to Lakeside School in January 2017. Over the past years she has completed professional training in special needs, AD(H)D/ASD coaching and gifted support and now works part-time as DaZ (in Kindergarten 2) and learning support teacher.
Subject Teacher Drama (English)
Joanne Postma was born in Canada and is a dual Canadian and Dutch citizen. She studied Theatre, English Literature and Education at Queen's University in Kingston Ontario and graduated in 2002. She has been teaching, directing, designing, devising and writing various theatre performances for youth ages 3-18 since then. Her education in theatre training has taken her to various cities in Canada, England, Dubai, France, and various cities all over Switzerland. An avid Set Designer and Director, she has an expansive portfolio, including acting coaching for the LAMDA examination program, and involvement and leadership of many styles of theatre; from directing and designing Disney themed musical flashiness, moving historical drama, classical clowning technique, absurdist modern comedy and improvisational street performance. In the 2017-18 school year she worked at our school as music teacher.
Currently teaching Drama at various international and bilingual schools in Switzerland, she joined Lakeside School Küsnacht as of October 2018 and Lakeside School Horgen in August 2020.
Subject Teacher Handicrafts (German)
Yvonne Scarabello was raised in Frauenfeld TG. After a four year apprenticeship as a skinner and an additional year at the School of Applied Arts (now the ZHdK), in 2003 she graduated from the F&F School for Art and Media Design with a Fine Arts diploma. Since then she has been working as a freelance artist. Ms Scarabello is committed to sharing her fascination for textile design and general handicrafts with children and teenagers. Since 2008 she has been working as a handicrafts teacher and substituting at various levels in different schools. She covered maternity leave several times at both Lakeside School Horgen and Küsnacht. Since 2015 she teaches at Lakeside School Horgen.
Subject Teacher Sports
Ralf Kurath grew up in Mels and is currently studying for his Master's degree in Sports Science and Geography in Bern. During this time he is also completing his training as a sports teacher at the “pädagogischen Hochsule” in Bern.
During his studies, he successfully completed various Youth and Sport (Y+S) training courses (including athletics, skiing, swimming). In addition, in his free time, he is a passionate track and field athlete and enjoys participating in many other sports.
As of August 2020, Herr Kurath he will be teaching Sports part-time.
Erika Taylor-Rabe was born and grew up in South Africa with an older and a younger sister.
In 1991 Mrs Taylor graduated from university with a B.Sc.Home Economics and a Higher Diploma in Education. Having lived in Zürich from 1999 to 2005, she left for 6 years and returned in 2011. While her son was in class 4 to 6 she was a stay-at-home mother, helping with the Elternrat, Gattikon Dorfverein and Thalwil Ludothek to contribute to the local community.
Mrs Taylor also joined the Swimming Club Thalwil Masters group to train with other adults.In 2014 she started teaching different groups at the Swimming School Thalwil including the kids’ groups. In addition to teaching at Swimming School Thalwil, Mrs Taylor now teaches at K-Swim Swimming School and otherwise gives private swimming lessons.
Water is her element and she loves swimming. She is very passionate about teaching. It gives her the utmost pleasure to motivate and build up confidence in others, no matter their age. She joined Lakeside School Horgen in February 2020.
Subject Teacher DaZ (German as a Second Language DAZ)
Kathrin Wächter grew up in Zurich. She worked for many years as a primary school teacher in various communities in the canton of Zurich. In the meantime, she also taught German courses for foreign-speaking adults at the Migros Club School and the Adult Education Centre. In recent years she has worked in job sharing at a primary school where she also taught DaZ. For the last 3 years she only taught DaZ at a secondary school in the canton of Zurich. She also completed the English education for the primary school and then taught English in a public school. She has been working at Lakeside School Horgen since October 2019.
