Our Bilingual EducationPioneering roleAlready in the year 2000, as the first school in the Canton of Zurich, Lakeside School offered in a joint venture with the Freien Gymnasium Zürich (FGZ) a bilingual program called the Bilingual Middleschool Zurich (today it’s known as Freies Gymnasium Zürich) for the 7th and 8th grades. The Bilingual Middleschool was available to gymnasial as well as progymnasial children. With this program, Lakeside School and the Freien Gymnasium Zürich played a pioneering role in the area of bilingual education. Current Educational ProgramTogether with the Freie Gymnasium Zürich (FGZ),Lakeside School offers a bilingual educational program starting with Kindergarten and continuing through to the Swiss Matura. The Lakeside School ends with 6th grade, and for the 7th and 8th grades, the FGZ offers gymnasial classes with Latin or progymnasial classes without Latin. Children who are graduates from Lakeside School only need a recommendation from the school in order to be accepted into the program. In contrast to the public gymnasiums, in the 9th – 12th grades, FGZ offers four different bilingual Matura-profiles. In addition, the immersive lessons in the bilingual classes at FGZ are taught at a native-speaker level; therefore, requiring German and English proficiency. This clearly differs from the bilingual program offered by other schools at this academic level. The quest for our vision continues...! |
